You meet someone, and within 30 seconds, you automatically like them. You don't know why, but you do. The good news is that I can teach you how to be that guy. The reality is that being highly likable is a superpower that will open more doors, create more opportunities, and yield more benefits. Being likable doesn't come naturally to many of us. The more you practice, develop, and focus, the better you will get. You can be that guy who lights up the room! Here's how to be a likable ninja:
Image matters. Present yourself as someone worth knowing. Within the first 3 seconds upon meeting someone, they form an opinion on your nonverbal communication. Control this by dressing well with clothing that fits your body and colors that are not too loud or bright. Ensure your shoes are clean and don't appear as a sloppy mess. Use a lint roller and pay attention to your grooming. Essentially, dress with intention and exhibit better body language.
Be authentic. People like others who are genuine and honest. These people are comfortable in their own skin and not trying to act like there's something that they're not. Be yourself -- honest and vulnerable. If you're a bit weird and quirky, that's totally cool. It makes you more endearing and likable. Be able to laugh at yourself and not take yourself too seriously. The world is full of people who strive to be perfect but often fall short, frequently because they are fake. People connect with others who are genuine, honest, and say what they think.
Have empathy. Empathy is a secret weapon. It's different than being sympathetic. Empathy connects people because they feel like they've been heard and understood. It's incredibly powerful.
Project positive energy. Energy that is optimistic, enthusiastic, and happy is powerful. Don't be frantic and yell all the time. Have energy that's charismatic and controlled in a positive manner. Be uplifting and fun to be around, which is very likable.
Speak like a leader. Avoid filler words and cursing. Use positive words to express your appreciation to others. Remember others' names and give compliments.
Leave the world better than you found it. Make people feel good. Make people laugh, inspire them, and give compliments.
