00:00 6 tips for a more sustainable life
00:23 Tip 1: Buy less clothes
Did you know the fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world? Besides buying less clothes, you can also take a critical look at the brands you buy. When something is too cheap to be true without being on sale, all the sustainable alarm bells in your head should ring.
01:19 Tip 2: Borrow more
Try to borrow more stuff you need from your neighbors. No, we’re not talking about a cup of sugar. We’re talking about a drill, a ladder, cocktail glasses, or a tent.
02:11 Tip 3: Use a sustainable phone
How long do you use your smartphone? 1 year? 2 years? Maybe 3? A lot of people throw away their phone, or hit them in a drawer and buy a newer, shinier and better one. This makes e-waste the world’s fastest-growing waste stream.
03:32 Tip 4: Use less water
On an average day, we use around 124 liters of water. That’s a lot, isn’t it? Your shower already uses 8 liters of water per minute. Skip the 10 minutes daydreaming about being a famous singer and try to narrow it down to 5 minutes. It saves you 40 liters of water per day!
04:09 Tip 5: Travel smarter
We all know that the car or plane isn’t the most environmentally friendly way to get around. Try traveling more by train and public transport. Or treat yourself to an electric bike if that means you can put the car aside. If you can’t cycle to work, maybe you can share a ride with a colleague.
04:57 Tip 6: Reduce your food waste
Food waste is a bigger problem than many people realize. In fact, nearly one-third of all food produced in the world is discarded or wasted for various reasons.
