The 6 meter band runs from from 50 to 54 MHz. And is used for a lot more than just FM Repeater inputs and outputs.

A band plan is a gentleman's agreement on where certain modes and activities can be done in order to best meet the needs of the most number of users. In the U.S. the band plan was developed by the ARRL with significant input from the membership.
