This is somthing i've read about and now I decided to make one. Basically the idea behind this is that you dont want to burn out your wood stoves bottom...and normally you use dirt or sand(no one wants to carry that in when winter camping...) so you make a raised false flooring to the stove and let that burn out. I bought a thin piece of galvanized steel and folded it into shape(if you use galvanized steel BURN IT HOT SO IT WHITENS...it can let off lethal fumes causing metal fume fever if you dont...same for your galvanized stove pipe...burn it hot in an open area before placing it in your tent to heat up.)
