#coptic #bohairic #languagelearningThe Error of Caragounis: Detailed Critique of The Error of Erasmus by Chrys CaragounispolýMATHY PLUS2023-06-09 | This video is a detailed critique of "The Error of Erasmus and Un-Greek Pronunciations of Greek" (1995) by Χρήστος Καραγκούνης (Chrys Caragounis). Caragounis' paper is often shared by those who affirm that the Ancient Greek pronunciation was the same or nearly the same as that of Modern Greek. This paper and its ideas usually appeal to the linguistically illiterate, among whom Caragounis is to be named, who favor Modern Greek phonology for one reason or another. Since most people don't have the linguistic knowledge to readily challenge each of Caragounis' notions head-on, this video is an attempt to shine light on the incredibly numerous of errors of logic and facts made by the author in this quite infamous work on "historical" phonology.

But there is optimism in his message too: by making these brave strokes into the cosmic ocean, the benifits to humanity will exceed our wildest dreams. We are on the verge of amazing discoveries, and that's what we'll discuss in this polýMATHY pódCAST with Jordan Wright. Specifically, I want to know his opinion on the potential discovery of live on Mars as far back as the Viking Program in 1977, and when we might get a clear answer to questions raised by those experiments. According to Teodorsson in his work The Phonology of Attic in the Hellenistic Period (1978), we have conclusive proof that an innovative subsystem of Attic phonology, that in some ways was even *more innovative* that that of Modern Greek, was actually dominant in Classical times, and that the Reconstructed Classical Attic Greek pronunciation was in fact more popular after the end of the Classical Greek period. #coptic #bohairic #languagelearningDoes Latin have lax vowels? Refuting the qualities [ɪ] and [ʊ] for ĭ and ŭ in Classical LatinpolýMATHY PLUS2022-11-08 | How are Latin vowels supposed to be pronounced? In this video I evaluate the pronunciation of Latin vowels according to W. Sydney Allen in his book Vox Latina, confronting his hypotheses with the inscriptional and linguistic evidence. Based on the data presented by J.N. Adams and Andrea Calabrese, I conclude that Allen's system is incorrect for Classical Latin. This is the most detailed video I have made to date on the topic of the pronunciation of Latin vowels, and while a long video, I promise that patient viewers will find many interesting and important ideas that will help them to make their own decisions with respect to reciting, speaking, and teaching Latin.

In this livestream podcast, Raphael Turrigiano and I will scrutinize the claims by Carme Jiménez Huertas in her book "Romance Did Not Begin in Rome," where she asserts that *none* of the Romance languages are derived from Latin, and that they all evolved from some other source.
These claims are easily falsifiable. Neveretheless, in the interest of fairness, Raphael and I will carefully examine her book in detail, applying lingustic rigor and philological acumen to the arguments of the author.
