Sonic means more to me than I will ever be able to describe. I cried more times during the prep for this Rave and the actual Rave itself than any other set I've ever done.
I'm nearing 40. That magical number that Johnny Gioeli and Jun Senoue said they never wanted to be, to 'Crush 40'. Johnny was a bit younger than me when he said that, and wrote the lyrics for Live and Learn.
I was always meant to be in music, in some way. Through life's travels, making music, playing music, it never really went away, I just didn't take the time anymore.
Then one day, my health went. In the course of a few short months I went from hauling superchargers and feeling on top of the world with my work, to being in a wheelchair and unable to walk more than a minute or two at a time.
If I were to stop my medications now, I would be back there very quickly - or worse. But even with them, I am disabled. I will never be able to meet the rigours of a full time international tour. Performing in a band? Terrifying as a concept.
But.
The Sonic community, here with Cosraves and @sonicstraya , and overseas with Sonic Con UK, Sonic Fanfest and others, has given me hope.
The video game remix community, internationally, gives me hope. @theologyvgm, @officialsare, @rnjimusic, @prototyperaptor, @darkprime and so, so many more - seeing their journeys, listening to their music, sharing it through DJing and bringing something unique to this community through my own style which I am discovering over time...
To the ravers who've danced to my tracks, cheered to songs I've made, even my own originals, things that have never existed before...
This all gives me hope. Something I lost for a long time.
And so yes, when I struggle to stand, when I'm feeling broken, but knowing my friends are with me - that all of YOU are with me?
Standing here, the way ahead's becoming clear.
