On March 25, 1948 USAF Major Ernest Fawbush and Captain Robert Miller successfully predicted conditions and parameters for a tornado in the vicinity of Tinker Air Force Base based on an event of similar magnitude only five days prior. This broadcast story featured on the CBS News program 'Public Eye' was produced for the 50th anniversary on March 25, 1998 of that miraculous forecast that raised tornado prediction and science to new levels for generations to follow.
The program features a visit to the former Storm Prediction Center/National Severe Storms Lab location in Norman, Oklahoma, interviews with meteorologist and tornado scientist Dr. Chuck Doswell, survivors of the Gainesville, Georgia tornado and then (1998) Hall County, Georgia Emergency Management (GEMA) director Elaine Sexton.
