In 2008, the YouTube channel ‘Nasa Jim 108’ uploaded its first video, entitled ‘Dying NASA Scientist Reveals Truth About Life on Mars’.

The video begins with the voice of Jim, distorted for his own protection, stating that he was “an aeronautic research engineer at NASA from 1989 to 2004”, and had recently been diagnosed with terminal bone cancer.
