Artificial intelligence-created art relies on a series of inputs. These virtual stimuli may be images, commands or concepts, which are interpreted and composited by the software’s ‘imagination’ into a unique image.
When, in April 2022, a Sweden-based artist known as Supercomposite ran some experiments through an AI image generation program, she stumbled across an image so deeply unsettling that it would rival the infamous Momo and Slender Man entities.
Her explorations with the software continuously produced a recurring character - that of a decrepit and sickly looking old woman, with straggling hair and moist, deeply haunting eyes.
The character was named Loab, taken from a string of nonsensical letters featured behind her in one of the first images to be generated.
