These are a series of clips from a series of homoerotic wrestling videos featuring male body builders that some Japanese netizens stumbled upon. The NND community thought to edit them in hilarious ways and made many inside jokes from mishearing the English lines as similar-sounding Japanese lines. This video itself uses many of these inside jokes and many sound clips from the original films. The place that went wrong is that when it's supposed to take the alpha values of all the pixels in the specified rectangle of pixels, it excluded the final row and column of pixels when it should've included them. However, the difference in the final product is so miniscule that it wasn't worth re-uploading the video all over again, but I thought it was worth noting.There were some technical difficulties getting the swf to work in Swivel (the swf-to-video convertor I use for every other upload). In multiple spots in the movie, the swf uses an alpha compositing trick where it applies a blur filter on a masking layer. This effectively produces a 'gradient transparency' effect, where the layers being masked (aka maskee layers) smoothly transitions into full transparency around the edges of he mask. This technique is used a lot in the PV as it allows the mask and maskee to move independently of each other while still having the effect on. The places that use this are: the scrolling text at the beginning, the projected images of Sakuya, Marisa and Reimu at 0:25, the stairs at 0:47, the 'halo ring' in the transition at 0:49 and the wall of eyes at 0:55. Swivel has trouble applying these bitmap filters on masks; it seems to just forget the masking effects when applying these filters. I suspect this may have to do with how Swivel converts vector graphics into raster graphics.Since development for Swivel is dead, and since I can't be bothered isolating where in the Swivel code is causing the problem, I decided to solve this by moving the alpha compositing from the Flash runtime to the video editing stage instead. I did this by modifying the original swf to give me versions with the relevant layers turned on and off, exporting the relevant shapes from the swf to use as the masks, converted the modified swf's into video with Swivel, then in video editing, combine the different versions of the movie together using a bunch of alpha-compositing effects to produce the masking effects. The blur filter used by swf's are rather unique; while the original swf 8 specification calls it the 'median filter', mathematically, it behaves more like a 'mean filter'. I didn't know of anything that has this type of blur effect, so I wrote some Python code to apply the blur filter to the masks as specified by the swf 8 specification document.I can almost 100% mathematically verify that the final video (without YouTube's compression) is what the original swf is intended to look like on 4K screens. The only thing I couldn't verify is the rounding mode used when applying the bitmap filters. This is because at runtime, the rendering of the swf file can be done using the default Flash Player runtime engine itself, or (starting from Flash Player 10) it can be GPU accelerated, meaning that the rounding modes could vary depending on what version of Flash Player or GPU you use.
