Here's how to break the "Silver Medal Curse," where you land interviews but not job offers.
The curse goes like this:
đYou land multiple interviews.
đ You make it to the final round.
đ And then... you hear, âWe loved you, but we went with someone else.â
It's so frustrating!
Because you KNOW you can do the job.
And this happens over and over.
Always getting the silver medal, never the gold.
It's agonizing.
Stephanie had this issue when she came on our show Job Shopper!
She had an amazing resume and was clearly an overachiever so why was she getting silver and not gold?
It all came down to her interview answers.
The gold medal interviewers approach it differently.
They come into the interview like a conversation, as if they are a coworker.
One way to do this is to start with insightful questions or assumptions when asked a hypothetical scenario.
For example, if asked, "How would you solve an employee retention problem?"
â Silver medal answer: "Iâd review HR data and talk to leaders."
â Gold medal answer: "How long has this been an issue? What trends are we seeing in the data? Or, if I assume itâs impacting the tech team, hereâs how Iâd tackle it..."
Itâs about showing perspective, initiative, and confidence.
There are specific and nuanced changes you need to make to your job search strategy that will have an enormous impact.
đŹIf you want to see how Stephanie broke through this hurdle, what "Job Shopper." The first 2 episodes are on my YouTube channel!
