Odd formations in the middle of the Moons craters Astrobiscuit 2023-10-25 | Many of the moon's craters have mountainous regions at their centre. This is due to the fact that the asteroid impact that forms the crater is so energetic that it melts the surface of the moon which then behaves like a liquid until the crust refreezes. This video explains how this phenomena creates mountains in the middle of the craters. There are however many craters without mountains at their centre. Most of these craters (Plato is the most famous) have been flooded my lava from the moon which covers the central mountain. #shorts #moon #astronomy #space

Strange object passing in front of Mars #shorts Astrobiscuit 2022-01-26 | Heads up I'm resurrecting this clip from 2018 in order to get more subs and because its quite fun. I personally think the object is a party balloon that has somehow managed to rise very high up into the atmosphere without popping but I don't know for sure.Here are details of the capture:Date 1st Sept 2018 Time: 20.55.20 GMTlocation: North London 51 34' 53" N -0 06' 17" WThe video is shooting at 100fps and the frame size in 320x280. I saw them going for £300 on ebay just before Christmas.In order to get the best out of the camera you need to remove the infra-red blocking filter which sits in front of the sensor. You can do it yourself but it is a risk (and more modern cameras are much more tricky to modify). I recommend Andy Ellis at Astronomiser to do this mod professionally. The last time I was on Dartmoor with binos was when I tried to shoot the Andromeda galaxy with my phone through some even cheaper binos. The results were good and I'm really pleased with the video - its my most popular one youtube.com/watch?v=njk0cfnjpV8&t=1s but I didn't spend any time at all just looking. Up until now I've really concentrated on astrophotography but this experience was cool and its making me think more and more about observing. And to see the faint stuff I need to be in complete darkness. Problem is to film in complete blackness is useless. I had to have some light on me for my phone to be able to film me and that in turn ruined my night vision. I'd be really keen for more experienced binocular astronomers to let me know if you can see more with proper night vision and if so how much more. Shoot a Planet with a Phone and a Telescope: MEGA CHEAP PLANETARY PHOTOGRAPHY Astrobiscuit 2018-10-06 | Shooting a planet with with a smart phone possible and a cheap telescope is not too hard. To save money I used bean bag instead of a mount! This is MEGA CHEAP planetary photography. You will need CINEMA 4k app or similar to record high quality video on your phone, a telescope, an eyepiece and an adaptor for attaching your phone onto the eyepiece. Before going into details I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to Riktenstein (link below) for the AMAZING music.riktenstein.bandcamp.com/album/music-from-the-astrobiscuit-soundtrackand also a big thank you to Damian Peach for unintentionally giving me the idea to use a bean bag when I interviewed him to get some tips on planetary photographyyoutu.be/SfrA_z1F0JYDamian has done some tutorials for those of you wishing to delve deeper into the subject and would like some tips on post processing.http://www.damianpeach.comHowever I don't believe he has tried imaging the solar system with his phone. I actually think it works quite well and I just want to give you a few tips to help you if you want to try this...1- Most important. make sure your phone records video with minimal compression. You may have a high resolution 4k phone but it means nothing if the video is compressed. Cinema 4k on my android is able to record at 200Mbps and this is good enough. 2- Make sure your recording app can adjust the exposure length on the video. Cinema 4k can3- lock the focus on the phone an then use the telescope to achieve fine focus.4- In my experience the best eyepieces to use are the ones which contain the least glass. Kellner eyepices are quite good and cheap (which is why I used one in this demo) but Orthoscopic eyepieces are even better.5 - I had to convert the video from the phone into an avi movie using a free program called PIPP.sites.google.com/site/astropipp/downloads I then used another free program called autostakkert to stack the frames.autostakkert.com/wp/download and finally I did sharpening and grading in photoshop CS2Please ask any questions you like, I'm more than happy to answerand you should def watch my other planetary video too!! U.F.O. - What is this dark object passing in front of Mars Astrobiscuit 2018-09-02 | U.F.O.? - a dark object passed in front of Mars last night whilst I was video the planet from my roof in London. It is an unidentified flying object - in that I don't know what it is - I doubt ET has come to visit BUT WHAT IS IT? A lot of people think its a bird at first but then they see the atmospheric distortions which imply the object is above the atmosphere. Hopefully some of you will be able to help solve the mystery. So PLEASE let me know what you think it is and why. Many thanks all All the info is in the video but I will repeat it here...Date 1st Sept 2018 Time: 20.55.20 GMTlocation: North London 51 34' 53" N -0 06' 17" WThe video is shooting at 100fps and the frame size in 320x280. This is pretty standard for planetary imaging.

It's a good, quick introduction to the Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon. Anyone with a digital camera and a zoom lens that goes up to about 300mm can do this. In some ways its better than a telescope.
