BIONICLE: 4-Minute Retrospective RE-EDITED | Oscar Page @Ozkabot

Ozkabot Over a decade ago in 2008, we were treated to a retrospective of the entire Bionicle story leading up to the final battle, which would result in the awakening of the Great Spirit, Mata Nui. It became a fan favourite video, marking the impending end of one era for Bionicle and the beginning of another. This re-edit aims to be an enhancement of that video, retaining the original structure and narration, but giving additional impact via a more dynamic edit to accompany the narration and a higher quality rendition of Gravity Hurts (recorded in 2012).

This video began with a post on Bionicle Maskposting from Casiano Urbano, requesting to see some additional Miramax clips edited into the original retrospective - a task which quickly spiralled out of control. Even after producing and sharing the original requested edit, I continued to tinker with the retrospective, eventually becoming a complete re-edit.

Serious Sam HD - Spec Campaign Trailer | Oscar Page

Ozkabot 2022-05-22 | Serious Sam HD is a fast paced arcade-action FPS, inspired by the likes of Duke Nukem and Doom, developed by Croteam and published by Devolver Digital - Originally released as The First Encounter and The Second Encounter in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

The original versions of Serious Sam, The First and Second encounters, were easily my favourite games growing up, so it was only a matter of time before I made a fan- trailer for them. Being two parts of a single story and the HD remasters originally planned to release as one package, it only made sense to combine them into one for this edit.

I'd be remiss if I didn't share a huge thankyou to Serious Sam's voice actor John J. Dick who kindly lent his voice for the opening narration of this trailer!

All gameplay and cinematic shots are my own, recorded in the Fusion edition of the game using Shadowplay at 1080p (rendered out at 4K to bypass YouTube's dodgy compression method for HD formats), and the soundtracks used are "Intro" and "As Above So Below (Exotech Larva)".

Portal - Spec Trailer | Oscar Page

Ozkabot 2022-05-11 | The official marketing for Portal wisely hid the darker turn the game takes, presenting the game as a lighthearted puzzle platformer. For this project however, I thought it would be a fun angle to really hone in on the ominous atmosphere of the first game without showing too much gameplay from the latter portion of the game, hinting that something isn't quite right here.

All gameplay and cinematic shots are my own, recorded using Shadowplay at 1080p (rendered out at 4K to bypass YouTube's dodgy compression method for HD formats), and the soundtracks used are "4000 Degrees Kelvin" and "Procedural Jiggle Bone".

BIONICLE: 20 YEARS AGO - Celebrating 20 Years of the Biological Chronicle

Wolfenstein: The New Order - Spec TV Spot | Oscar Page

Ozkabot 2020-12-04 | Fan-made TV Spot for Machine Games' reboot of the Wolfenstein series, set in an alternate history 1960. A lot of the official trailers put focus on the story and cinematics, so I wanted to take a different approach and focus almost entirely on the gameplay for this edit.

DOOM 3 - Spec Trailer | Oscar Page

Ozkabot 2020-11-20 | Ever since I heard Mick Gordon's remix of DOOM 3's intro music, I knew I had to use it in an edit for DOOM 3. Higher quality version of DOOM 3's menu theme also from DOOM Eternal (linked below), discoverable as a collectible which you can listen to in the Fortress of Doom.

99% of what you see here is my own recorded gameplay (using the DOOM 3: Redux mod), only exceptions being one cinematic shot of a corpse at around 21 seconds and the final DOOM 3 title reveal, both sourced from DOOM 3 BFG Edition trailers. I would have liked to record more cinematic shots from throughout the game but there's seemingly no console command to clear my inventory, so I wasn't able to record anything beyond the first level without a weapon in-hand.

All sounds have been redubbed using sound effects sourced directly from Doom 3's game files for the highest quality, carefully synced to match in-game actions as closely as possible.

Ozkabot 2020-10-16 | Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Frictional's prior Penumbra games have been host to some of my most terrifying gaming experiences. A deeply unsettling atmosphere and distinct sense of dread, accompanying your unriddling of various puzzles, punctuated with bloodcurdling run-ins with your pursuers; Frictional Games are truly masters of the horror genre.

Serious Sam 4 - ARMAGEDDON Spec TV Spot | Oscar Page

Ozkabot 2020-09-20 | With the 'Countdown to Serious Sam 4' series concluded and having received our first look at the legion system in action, I couldn't resist putting another trailer together. While my first was primarily a showcase of the classic Serious Sam action that we've seen from SS4, for this trailer I wanted to try and cram a bit of the Popemobile action in too, in an effort to represent all the marketing we've received so far in a 'TV Spot' style edit.

A short fan-made trailer for the top-down shooter / slasher, Hotline Miami, from Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital, originally released in 2012. The game is known for its high octane gameplay, with both the player and most enemies only taking one hit before death - which inspired this video's title "Die Fast. Kill Faster." For this fan trailer I wanted to capture that sense of speed, aiming to keep a consistent flow and sync shots, hits and kills to the music.

All sound effects were redubbed using official in-game sounds, carefully synced to match the in game actions.

As much as I enjoy the game, my gameplay simply would not do it justice. As such, I sourced gameplay for this edit from the following two videos:

REALMS DEEP - Retro FPS Sizzle Reel | Oscar Page

Ozkabot 2020-09-08 | Realms Deep is a digital games event that was held from September 5th - 6th this year, hosted by 3D Realms and several other publishers and developers in the indie gaming space. Ozkabot 2020-06-01 | An alternative look at BIONICLE G2's marketing, edited in the style of 2001 commercials.

I've wanted to edit this together for a while, but a perfect storm of procrastination and other projects have pushed this ever further back. However, it seems LordFindoGask's "BIONICLE G2 COMMERCIALS BUT BETTER" (which you should definitely check out along with his other content, link below) was the kick up the arse I needed to finally make a start on it - so here we are!

The marketing for Bionicle G2 received a lot of negativity for its relatively bland nature, lacking the atmosphere and intrigue that made the G1 trailers so entertaining not only as pieces of marketing but also as an insight into the world of Bionicle. With this in mind, I thought I'd give the G2 commercials a re-edit in a 2001 style, hoping to inject some of G1's distinct personality into the 2015/16 reboot's marketing.

BIONICLE Music Video - ENHANCE (Blood Brothers by Ninja Tracks) | Oscar Page (4k, 60fps)

Ozkabot 2020-03-13 | A short Bionicle tribute using LordFindogask's 'enhanced' footage, going for a more cinematic style. It was a delight to work with this remastered footage, the increased framerate giving so much more leeway for messing with the speed of clips. With this in mind, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to really push myself with the transitions (seen towards the end). Unfortunately, this did lead to a rather short video, as it was becoming increasingly difficult to find clips that matched in the right way as I used up more of my footage.

BIONICLE Music Video - Kickstart My Heart | Oscar Page

Ozkabot 2019-11-15 | A short, fast-paced ride through Bionicle. I wanted to throw out all of the restrictions I had while making 10 Years Ago and put the editing front and center; mixing all the years up and seeing what happens.

Something I find interesting about this song is that it's based on an event which kind of parallels the reawakening of Mata Nui. In short, the lead singer of Motley Crue, Nikki Sixx, was declared dead after a drug overdose, and in a last attempt to save him the paramedics injected a shot of adrenaline into his heart - hence Kickstart My Heart; obviously, it worked. Matoro's sacrafice and the Kanohi Ignika acted as that shot of adrenaline for Mata Nui.
