Here’s Everything you need to know before watching the 3rd Republican Debate on CNBC.
Let’s really start with the “non-politician” front runners, Donald Trump and neurosurgeon Ben Carson, both are polling above 20% in National polls and Iowa. They are the big targets, but to call the debate a success, they simply need to avoid huge mistakes. Watch Trump to hear lots of insults and little policy. Watch Carson to stay above the fray and talk slowly.
Next is another outsider, Former CEO Carly Fiorina, who skyrocketed to 2nd in polls after the last debate. she’s since collapsed back down to single digits. She needs a strong performance in order to recover. Watch Carly for dramatic one-liners.

Ok, the floridians. Former Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio. Rubio is 3rd in national polls and is increasingly seen as the establishments best hope. To see another rise in the polls, he needs the other establishment guy Jeb Bush, to have a bad night. Jeb has been hovering below 10% for months now. Without a good performance tonight, the big donors will surely leave him.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz will stare directly into the camera. You’ve been warned.
Now the “margin of error” candidates.
Gov. John Kasich and Gov. Chris Christie poll around 2%. Watch both of them try to sell their “pragmatic Republicanism”. Christie will just do it more aggressively.
Gov. Mike Huckabee barely made it onto the stage with poor polling. Expect him to bible thump.
Sen. Rand Paul also barely made it on stage. It’s do or die for him. Standing ovations or drop out.
Rick Santorum, George Pataki, Bobber Jindew, and Lindsey Graham will bore us at the undercard debate. Just mute the TV and drink a cocktail while playing my republican debate drinking game.
