This tutorial shows how to create realistic 3D water animations in Adobe After Effects, without the use of third-party plug-ins. Follow along to make a realistic ocean flyover, and then adjust the settings to customize your water animation as needed. This is a 3D effect, so you'll be able to move or animate your camera to orbit the waves, or move over them. Anyone can make this water effect, no experience necessary!
If you need 3D water scenes with more customization options, you can check out these popular After Effects templates from Creation Effects:
_Ocean_ - Create realistic 3D bodies of water, made from real water footage. Ocean allows you to create custom, 3D bodies of water in Adobe After Effects. Choose from over 60 video water textures (or use your own), and convert them into oceans, lakes, ponds, rivers, and pools. Insert your titles, logo, or other 3D elements into your scene, and customize the water with convenient controls.

![Brushstroke Write-On Effect | After Effects Tutorial (for streaky calligraphy strokes)
This After Effects tutorial shows how to make realistic, calligraphic brush strokes with a write-on effect. Or you can download the animation preset at https://www.creationeffects.com/effects/scribe-after-effects-brushstroke.
The animation preset is just $19 and has customization controls and additional features not shown in this tutorial.
With this technique that uses the Echo effect, you can get a stroke with parallel streaks (like a paintbrush) and varied width (like a calligraphy pen). The stroke writes itself out as it follows a path that you draw with the Pen tool.
At 6:00, paste the following expression onto the Brush layers Rotation:
p1 = position.valueAtTime(time - thisComp.frameDuration);
p2 = position.valueAtTime(time);
value + radiansToDegrees(Math.atan2(p2[1] - p1[1], p2[0] - p1[0]));
at 8:45, paste this expression into the Echo Time property of the Echo effect:
s = effect(Echo Spacing)(Slider);
- thisComp.frameDuration / s;

EXPRESSIONS: Put the following three expressions in the Producer section of the CC Particle World effect. Make sure a Layer Control is on the layer named Follow Layer, and set it to the Null layer you want to follow.
Position X:
x = effect(Follow Layer)(Layer).transform.position[0]/thisLayer.width;
value - (thisLayer.width/2)/thisLayer.width + x;
Position Y:
x = effect(Follow Layer)(Layer).transform.position[1]/thisLayer.width;
value - (thisLayer.height/2)/thisLayer.width + x;
Position Z:
x = effect(Follow Layer)(Layer).transform.position[2]/thisLayer.width;
value - (thisLayer.width/2)/thisLayer.width + x + 0.5;
To make your lens flare follow your comet or meteor, put the following expression on the Lens Flare Position property, inside the Global Controls, on your lens flare layer:
L=thisComp.layer(Comet Position);
L.toComp([0,0,0]);
