A new Random Act of Anatomy! Last night (2019-02-06), I gave a Science Cafe here on the Ohio University campus and brought along a 3D-printed version of the convoluted "krazy-straw" nasal cavity of the ankylosaur Euoplocephalus. This Random Act of Anatomy showcases the 3D print, complete with a neon electroluminescent wire running through it! We'll have the 3D print available for download on Sketchfab tomorrow. We published on the physiological function (heat exchange and selective brain cooling) of this elongate, twisty-turny nasal passage in December 2018 in an open-access article in PLOS ONE (bit.ly/2EwOzMO) led by Jason Bourke with Ruger Porter and myself as coauthors.
