Opening Theme: “If it is too good to be true, it must have been designed in China”
No this is not “gang up on China” week, but it is notable that two of the biggest projects on Kickstarter both come from companies in China -- piMax and AntVr (dlodlo). piMax we have mentioned before on the show after actually buying their 4K headset and lately due to their “8K” wide FOV HMD which has already slipped its release date and will not be able to actually be able to perform at 90Hz as originally promised, plus a few other issues, which I am not surprised because the 4K model also made promises that never materialized. Let’s not forget Dlodlo another company from China who claimed to have the smallest and lightest VR headset and yet the prototype was indeed very light, but its fit and finish left many bloggers who actually tested it, less than impressed, finally there’s AntVR, who many remembered their first Kickstarter to bring the first commercial HMD before you know that other company Oculus came out with theirs, to less than stellar reviews and had very little penetration in the US (no pun intended really). Now they are back with another product called the MiX and if you think it looks a lot like the Dlodlo, there might be a reason for that since they both share the same 1” 1200x1200 displays just flipped up 90 degrees and reflected back into semi-mirrored 45 degree angled piece of plastic with “Dual-Channel Lens” designed lenses in front of your eyes to help magnify and separate the 3D output from the real world through polarization.
