In this video I’m going talk about how I use to probe with a G38.2 and G92 commands, and how I now use a stationary normally closed button to probe with the G38.4 and G10 command. I’ll also talk about the advantages of using these methods, and how the latter method effects bit changing and setting up cutting jobs. I’ll also mention some of the macros settings on my CNC control software which allow me to work and change between bits more easily. And at the end of the video I perform a repeatability test by homing the z axis and performing a probe cycle – looking at the tolerance of the procedure.
Note: G92 Position Register / Set Position commands will reset if a M30 command is executed at the end of a g-code job, or if the GRBL soft stop is pressed. This will effect restarting jobs. Instead of G92 it is recommended to use a G10 Set Tool Offset / Programmable Data Input command instead.
