Today I want to show you how to increase your stitch number in crochet. This is a very important skill to learn if you want to make things like hats or blankets. I am going to show you the easiest and most common way to do this.
I will show you how to increase in single crochet, double crochet, and half double crochet because these are the stitches you will use the most.
To increase in single crochet, you just do your normal stitch by inserting the hook and pulling through. Usually you would move to the next stitch, but to increase you just insert your hook back into that same exact stitch and do another single crochet. This turns one stitch into two stitches and makes a little V shape.
It is the same process for the double crochet and the half double crochet. You just do two stitches into the same gap instead of moving forward.
Sometimes a pattern might even ask you to do three stitches in one hole if you need to grow the project even faster.
