According to some recent reports, 80-80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by February and one of the most popular decisions is start eating healthy for the new year with resolutions. So to help you avoid this trap, I'm going to show that creating healthy resolutions and creating healthy eating resolutions is easier than you think. So here are three ways you can start eating healthy for the new year.

#1 - Nobody is perfect
A lot of times when you create a resolution, we think we need to be perfect. If you want to eat healthier, be more active, start your journey to eat more fruits and veggies, or maybe you just want to stop consuming dairy. Whatever your resolution is, don’t get discouraged when you make a mistake, because let’s face it, we’re all going to make mistakes. I say this because it’s so easy to get off track when trying something new. For example, maybe you grab a donut for breakfast instead of that smoothie that you know would have been healthier choice. So when lunch time comes around, you figure that the day is already ruined with the donut from breakfast, so you may another decision that you may regret and tell yourself, I’ll just eat healthy tomorrow. Sounds familiar? Imagine if we never stopped thinking this way. We would never get back on track with anything and we would be in big trouble. Remember to keep on track with progress over perfection.

#2 - Go at your won’t pace
Nobody is perfect. Do the best you can and try to make some sort of progress every day. Even if it’s just reviewing what you you ate earlier in the day and educating yourself to make better decisions moving forward. This journey is not a sprint, so move at your own pace. So many times we feel that we need to be perfect with every decision or make a bunch of changes at one time. Some people can make changes cold turkey, but others need to time to make a transition gradually. You know yourself better than anyone, so do what works best for you. This will be help make the transition easier and set you for long-term success and make your resolution sustainable.

#3 - Set realistic resolutions with a time frame
The last thing you want to do is set a resolution that you know you can’t achieve. This is basically setting yourself up for failure. You want your goal to be realistic. Now there is nothing wrong with setting a resolution that makes you work for it, just be sure it still remains with your ability to achieve. And remember to tackle all your resolutions at once. I see people making a list of 10 resolutions that they are going to try implement right away. Alhough I applaud the effort, there is chance you will become overwhelmed with all the changes and become discouraged. Start with a resolution that you can implement quickly, give yourself a time frame to achieve that and once it has become part of your routine, add another resolution. It’s important to create a date to complete the resolution and move on to the next. This will prevent you from being on your first resolution in June.
