In this conversation, I discuss how βnormalβ time-restricted eating (breakfast to dinner, 12-13 hours overnight) differs from late fasting, and why fasted training often backfires for active midlife women. I walk through the data showing no improvements in glucose tolerance, telomeres, or parasympathetic tone with late fasting, and explain what happens to luteinizing hormone pulses and cortisol when women train unfueled. I outline why a bit of protein before, and protein plus carbohydrate after, strength or HIIT leads to better adaptations, higher EPOC, more daytime energy, and better satiety. Women are already metabolically flexible; across the menstrual cycle we naturally shift fuel use. For postmenopause, consistent protein and smart calorie control outperform long fasts or chasing ketosis for body composition. I also touch on circadian rhythm and the hypothalamus - how regular daytime meals reduce perceived stress and support healthy hormone signaling.
