This is a fairly decent Chinese 3 jaw chuck that came with the lathe. I had to use 1000 grit oil stone to touch up the spindle mating face and then find a sweet spot by rotating the mounting / adaptor plate 120 degrees until I got a 0.01 or less run-out on the chuck body.

Then I tried moving the jaws around until I found the sweet spot. Not bad for a cheapish lathe (Optimum TU2506 clone)
