I took three different types of inline skates out for a session to find out which skate style is the most fun to ride.

For tricks, jumps, and other advanced maneuvers, hardboot inline skates are my personal favorite. They offer maximum control, outstanding support, and the stability needed to perform even technical tricks with confidence.

Hybrid skates, such as the Powerslide Swell, are my preferred choice for fitness skating, performance, and longer distances. They're relatively lightweight, fit snugly around the foot, and are specifically designed for efficient skating.

I mainly recommend classic softboot inline skates if your highest priority is comfort or if you're already a confident skater looking for a skate you can wear comfortably all day. For beginners, however, I believe softboot skates often don't provide enough support. As a result, the ankles are more likely to roll inward or outward, leading to a less stable skating experience. Their biggest advantage is clearly their exceptional comfort.

My conclusion: If you're new to inline skating or have more ambitious skating goals, I highly recommend starting with a hardboot skate. The improved stability and control make learning easier while providing greater safety and more enjoyment in the long run.
