This trip started as a simple winter hot tent camp and turned into a slow, exhausting lesson in snow travel. I hauled a loaded toboggan down an old rail line, chopped wood for the stove, and set up a hot tent. The wood stove turned the tent into a sauna, fogged the cameras, boiled water fast, and made the experience enjoyable.
The plan started to unravel. I underestimated food, overestimated shortcuts, and burned far more energy than expected pulling gear through fresh snow. A failed bushwhack, heavy snowfall, and poor weight distribution on the toboggan forced multiple reroutes and an unplanned extra night out.
