This video compares the difference in performance of the XY mode of analog CRT based oscilloscopes vs. digital scopes. The circuit being used to generate the X and Y waveforms is a fun little board made by VintageTEK, and is available on ebay:
Note that the stock of this board sold out very quickly. VintageTek has responded by building a new batch of boards!!! As a bonus, these new boards include a 2nd function - a table-tennis game, very similar to one of the original TV video games. Here is the link to the NEW and IMPROVED board:
