This week's guest is my good friend Bendik Bjørnstad from the Youtube channel @UnitaryDesignation. Bendik is not really a proper VR user yet, but uses other computational media for gaming and social connections. We loosely discuss what we believe VR would have to become in order for us to use it everyday. Is a "killer app" required, or is it simply just comfort?
The VR & Philosophy podcast is a podcast conducted either in reality or virtual reality, where we discuss philosophical questions pertaining to immersive virtual reality. Enjoy :)

Will Apple's VR headset fail? Will it succeed? In this video, I give my thoughts on the Apple Vision Pro for the first time. I claim that it is because their vision for spatial computing is quite boring that the Apple Vision Pro might indeed be a success. It might succeed exactly because it is not like general virtual reality headsets.
Do you agree or disagree? Will the Apple Vision Pro be a flop, or is their vision actually awesome? Please do comment below, or in the Discord channel:

Artist: http://incompetech.com52 Definitions of Virtual RealityAltVR2022-06-18 | In his book Dawn of the New Everything, Jaron Lanier (“The Father of Virtual Reality”) takes a look back at his life as a VR entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. Lanier founded VPL research, the first VR company to ever exist.
Throughout his book, he delivers 52 unconventional definitions of Immersive Virtual Reality. Here, Lanier tries to answer the question of "what is virtual reality", while giving justice to its varied potential for eperiences. In this article, I will present each one of them, and discuss how Lanier’s ideas can help us to imagine the true potential of Virtual Reality — for better and for worse.

Here, Bostrom argues that there are three potential scenarios relevant for the question of whether we are living in a computer simulation. In this video, we will discuss this as one of the thought experiments of Virtual Reality.
Bostrom argues that at least one of them has to be true: The human species is very likely to go extinct before reaching a “posthuman” stage where we can run simulations; Any posthuman civilization is extremely unlikely to run a significant number of simulations of their evolutionary history (or variations thereof); We are almost certainly living in a computer simulation. Here, Bostrom argues that if humans develop the possibility of running perfect simulations and actually want to do so (thus, if the first two possibilities are not true), then we are almost certainly already living in a simulation. How can this be?

I have been eager to take a look at this HMD for a long time because of its interesting look and form factor. It is also interesting that HTC caters to another market than gaming with this headset (that is, meditation, mindfulness, wellness, etc.)- and that it is intended for consumers and not business customers. I discuss the form factor, quality of display, their innovative lens design, and take a look at some of its supported applications, and take quite some time in giving my opinion on this product. For those who would like an in-depth review of my impressions of this HMD!

He now actively warns against Meta or Facebook's intention to create a Metaverse. While Lanier also have wonderful visions for what VR technology can provide humanity in the future, he also has nightmares of the evil potential of the technology he helped bear to fruition. Nightmares that are eerily similar to the vision what Meta - the largest VR & personal data company in the world - recently announced.
In this video, I show how Jaron Lanier warned us of Meta. We take a look at Lanier's warning and why Meta is highly dangerous and should be boycotted. Why You Shouldn’t Buy Virtual Land in the Metaverse (Decentraland / Sandbox)AltVR2022-01-07 | With Meta’s announcement of their long term vision of owning the Metaverse, crypto tokens such as Decentraland ($MANA) and Sandbox ($SAND) soared to new all-time highs. While I am a big believer in the potential of blockchain technologies to create a decentralised Metaverse, blockchain approaches based on exclusive and scarce virtual land is entirely backwards and fails to grasp at what the Metaverse will become. In this video, I am telling you why.
The video explains why the users of "the Metaverse" like Decentraland and Sandbox wish to become, does not benefit from having exclusive or limited virtual land. This is what Edward Snowden referred to as the NFT ish-ness of these projects. While Metaverse projects can greatly benefit from crypto, metaverse real estate is in my opinion the wrong approach. Virtual land investment might still increase in value, but one's investment will not be turned towards any good product that people in the end will want to use. We therefore haven't seen the best metaverse crypto tokens yet, in my opinion, it would have to be someone that opens up the space for everyone to participate, like a blockchain version of VRChat. While these projects are still better than Meta or Facebook or whatever, they do a lot of things wrong which limit their potential greatly. Whether Mana can still do an 100x or not (and I severely doubt it, it looks like Habbo hotel), it's not a good investment for humanity as we have the possibility to invest in projects that are actually good for us. Buying metaverse property for sale, whether Decentraland or Sandbox, is just silly.Zen Republic: An Alternative Vision for the MetaverseAltVR2021-10-31 | In the newest episode of the VR & Philosophy podcast (#17) I am finally visiting Zen Republic HQ to have a chat with its creator: Thomukas1. We had a wonderful chat about Facebook / Meta's vision of the Metaverse and why there is a need for a decentralized Metaverse. How should this be solved? Blockchain technology. We smoked some virtual joints, discussed our first experiences with virtual currencies (RuneScape Gold and Partyhats), Thomukas1 held a spontaneous RuneScape concert, presented his newest blockchain-based game Zen Fighters, and showed me some of the wonderful easter eggs in Zen Republic.
A lot of fun stuff in just 40 minutes, if I was me, I would definitely pay attention to what Zen Republic is doing in terms of blockchain-based VR in the future. Luckily I am!

I was asked by LightBath give an honest review of this product. LiBa is an affordable competitor to the Ajna Light, a technology I've been interested in ever since I saw Dennis McKenna speak about it on the JRE a couple years back.
This technology is often being markedet as stimulating the pineal gland (aka third eye) in order to produce DMT. While I don't necessarily believe this is well-founded for explaining the effects, this device is very impressive in its ability to provide interesting visuals! NVidia just announced that they will be blocking cryptomining in the coming RTX 3060 cards of Ethereum. If miners attempt to use this card to mine Ethereum, the card speed will be reduced to 50% making it an unviable approach. This is great news for VR gamers and although it will not impact cards such as the RTX 3080 and 3090, hopefully Nvidia will cease this opportunity to show that they are concerned about gamers and wish to combat today's situation with scalpers and cryptomining farms taking the cards away from gamers. The new block will be for Ethereum, which is the most profitable to mine.
What do you think? Have you ever used NVidia cards to mine Ethereum or Bitcoin?VR & Philosophy #16: Skeeva on Facebook/Oculus Controversy, Apple VR and Valve BCIAltVR2021-02-16 | In this video, I talk with the great and powerful Skeeva from the Between Realities podcast.
