Scripture to read and think about today: Daniel 3:16–18
I hope this season of prayer and fasting has been life-giving and life-changing for you. As we prepare to wrap up this time together, I want to share a simple but powerful truth.
When you dive into the book of Daniel, you read about three incredible, faith-filled men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Many of us know this story well, but here’s a brief recap: King Nebuchadnezzar built a golden statue and commanded everyone to bow down and worship it. Anyone who refused would be sentenced to death. When these men refused to bow, their obedience to God led to a death sentence in the fiery furnace. They boldly declared that their God would deliver them, and we rejoice because He does! God moves in a mighty way and saves them. But there’s a powerful moment that often gets overlooked, and it happens before they are thrown into the fire.
Daniel 3:16–18 says:
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”
What they are saying is powerful. We know God can save us, but even if He doesn’t, our faith and trust remain in Him. Nothing would bend them or deter them. Their faith, hope, and trust were fully anchored in the Lord.
As we close out this season of prayer and fasting, I want to challenge you for the rest of this year to anchor your faith, hope, and trust in God. It’s easy to place our hope in our skills, talents, friendships, or even our jobs. But when we anchor our faith in those things instead of God, we set ourselves up for disappointment.
May this be the year we wholeheartedly seek God and all that He has for us, above our own desires!
