This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV, plug-in electric SUV.
We finally got our hands on the new Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid with more range and more power!
The 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV is powered by a 2.5L 4 cylinder matched to an eCVT, it gets a combined 324 horsepower and uses the 6th generation PHEV system with two electric motors. It has a 22.7 kWh battery with up to 89 km/55 miles of range. The GR Sport and Woodland models offer a little less range, standard AWD.
You can drive the 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV in EV mode up to 140 km/h, 87 mph on the highway and it has a water-cooling type thermal management system to warm up the battery to provide better range.
There are three models in Canada and four in the US with the addition of the Woodland plug-in hybrid.
In Canada, the2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV SE model qualifies for the Federal EV rebate of $2500 and it comes with some great standard features, including a 12.3” digital driver display, 10.5” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system, cloth upholstery, heated front seats, 8-way power driver seat, 6-way manual passenger seat, heated steering wheel, moonroof and a power tailgate. In the US, not all these features are standard.
There are different trim offerings with unique exterior designs like the RAV4 GR Sport takes inspiration from motorsports and prioritizes handling with a GR Sport tuned suspension. The XSE and SE models have sport designs and the Woodland, an outdoor inspired design.
Depending on the trim, fuel economy does vary, the 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV SE model has the best at 2.4Le/100 km, 98 MPG. When the battery is depletes 5.2L/100km, 45 MPG city and
6.3L/100 km, 37 MPG highway.
