The 2026 Alberta Outdoor Adventure Expo was supposed to be a celebration of the outdoors, adventure, and the community that makes it all possible.
Instead, it became one of the most challenging experiences our family has ever faced.
While we were planning the Expo, our son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Suddenly, something we had been working so hard to build became just one part of a much bigger and more difficult journey for our family.
Then, while the Expo was underway, an atmospheric river brought incredible amounts of rain to the area. The Expo grounds flooded, creating a completely different kind of challenge and putting the event — and all the work that had gone into it — to the test.
But we kept going.
This is the story behind the 2026 Alberta Outdoor Adventure Expo — the challenges, the setbacks, the weather, the emotions, and the people who helped our family and the Expo team get through it.
Sometimes adventure doesn't come looking for you on a trail.
Sometimes it finds you right at home.
Come hell and high water, The Expo team made it happen.
