Every year we attend hundreds of shows in Toronto, across Canada, in New York and London, and as far away as Australia. We search for the best theatre that we can present in our four downtown Toronto theatres. We look for what’s new and noteworthy, for great performances from both stars and new talent, and for that something special that we think will captivate our audiences. If you’ve been a subscriber in the past, you’ll know that our seasons are eclectic and that they include a great representation of what’s happening in theatres around the world.
It’s not easy or simple to assemble a season of shows. There are so many elements that have to come together for a show to be on one of our stages. The rights have to be available, the best director and creative team have to have gelled into one brilliant entity, the finest actors have to be auditioned, hired and rehearsed. Each subscription season is a work in progress for many years. And this coming season is an especially wonderful one.
From Canada’s East Coast we have the uproarious new musical comedy TELL TALE HARBOUR, starring Alan Doyle.
From Broadway comes MJ THE MUSICAL, a thrilling work of music, dance and drama that looks at a pivotal moment in Michael Jackson’s career when he was creating the 1992 ‘Dangerous’ concert tour.
Next, we bring back one of the most popular shows we’ve ever presented, the joyous & JULIET, which had its North American premiere with us in 2022 for too short a run, before taking Broadway by storm. People have been asking us about bringing it back ever since it left.
In the new year we have a quartet of Broadway hits from the last two years. SOME LIKE IT HOT is a sizzling musical stage adaptation of one of the classics of film comedy.
SHUCKED is a riotous and original new musical about one of the most unusual topics — corn farming. But don’t be fooled; it’s really a traditional romance with a happy ending, like all great musical comedies.
A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL is — as the title says popular the story of one of music’s greatest icons.
THE OUTSIDERS is the winner of the 2024 Tony Award® for Best Musical. It’s a tender, moving and exciting stage adaptation of the timeless novel.
And in honour of & JULIET, we are calling this the Oops!...We Did It Again season. The only thing missing from this season is you. You are as important to great theatre as everyone on stage and backstage. The magic of theatre is the energy that is created by the artists and their audience. Without you, there is no theatre.
