Introducing 2023 & 2024 #AstronautScholar Tara Young from the @universityofwashington!
Tara is pursuing a major in biochemistry with a minor in bioethics. She studies how special enzymes called topoisomerases help untangle DNA knots so that it can be copied properly during cell division. Using biochemical techniques, Tara works to reveal the mechanism of topoisomerase recruitment and provide new insight into better ways to inhibit bacteria and cancer growth.
The University of Washington Astronaut Scholarship is sponsored by Carol Fitzgerald Tyler and John Tyler, in memory of Leslie Ann Fitzgerald Doll.
