This skit was performed by the Occupational Health and Safety Thespian Collective at the November 5, 2013 Awards Luncheon in Boston, Massachusetts, for the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA). In 2014, the OHS section celebrates the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1914. Dr. Alice Hamilton was a founding member and first vice-president of the newly organized section (then called the industrial hygiene section). The OHS Section is a diverse and dynamic group of public health advocates committed to ensuring—-through research, practice and policy—-workers fundamental right to healthy and safe workplaces. OHS Section members are part of the larger 50,000 member American Public Health Association. One of the highlights of each years Annual Meeting is OHS Sections Award Lunch, with feature entertainment provided by the OHS Thespian Collective. So, although the OHS Section gets silly once a year —mostly to relieve our frustration at the current state of workplace health and safety in the U.S. and around the globe—the rest of the year, we value our APHA membership to advance a progressive agenda for health and safety. Join us in 2014 for our 100th anniversary.
