Lake Cote UFO
One of the most convincing UFO photographs from the twentieth century has been given a high-resolution makeover, reigniting debate about what has been labeled "the finest image of a UFO ever made public". The Lake Cote image was captured from an airplane on the morning of September 4, 1971, by a team from the National Geographic Institute of Costa Rica investigating the potential impact of a hydropower project being built around the Arenal Volcano. The photographers were unaware that the image of an intriguing metallic disk-shaped item had been recorded in the corner of one of their frames.
The nature of the odd object has been hotly contested over the years: some claim it's a hoax, others believe it's an optical illusion, and, of course, some say it's a flying saucer. Several researchers have analyzed the photograph over the years, writing studies on it in 1989 and 1990, concluding it has "no evidence of optical defects, deliberate hoax, or support for other prosaic explanations." However, not everyone is convinced.
Underwater UFOs
An unidentified object was shot down 10 miles off the freezing shore of Alaska. According to a person briefed on the intelligence, US military pilots sent up to study the item reported different versions of what they saw, which is one of the reasons why the Pentagon has been cautious about identifying what the object is. After the object was discovered, F-35 fighters were dispatched to investigate, returning with "limited" information about it. However, the pilots eventually provided conflicting accounts of what they saw, according to a source familiar with the intelligence.
Some pilots claimed the object "interfered with their sensors" on the planes, but not all reported this. Some pilots also claimed to have seen no discernible propulsion on the object and were unable to explain how it remained in the air despite cruising at 40,000 feet. According to a person knowledgeable on the situation, the Pentagon's inability to clearly explain what the object was, is due in part to contradicting eyewitness testimonies. According to a US official, the object did not appear to contain any monitoring equipment, implying it was smaller and less sophisticated than the Chinese balloon that was shot.
