This is the first part of an expected 2-part series covering each and every verse of the Apostle Paul’s second epistle to Timothy. In this sermon, Dr. Thiel covers the first two chapters of Paul’s letter. Paul reminds Timothy of his own role, reminds him to pray, mentions that his grandmother and mother had faith, and reminds him he received the gift of God through the laying on of Paul's hands. Paul writes that Christians were not given a spirit of fear, but of a sound mind. Dr. Thiel quotes various passages of scripture showing that Satan did not have a sound mind because his heart was lifted up, despite Lucifer having more knowledge than humans. He explains that we have no need to fear Satan and that while Satan can hinder and try to tempt us, he has no lasting power. Dr. Thiel says that while others will realize how weak Satan is in the future, Christians should realize that now and live by faith and endure to the end. He quotes passages in the New Testament showing that Christians can resist Satan, the power of God's Spirit within us is greater than Satan, and that demons cannot separate the faithful from God. He explains that the Bible shows Christians cannot lose if they do not give up--even if we make mistakes. He also goes over scriptures about trials and suffering. Dr. Thiel quotes the Apostle Paul that we can be confident of better things, yet some who claim to be in the faith can turn against it. Yet, Philadelphian brotherly love is to continue and Christians should seek to do the will of God. Preaching the words of God to help Christians instruct many is touched upon.
