The Real Threat to Free Speech SKTheCrusader 2023-11-30 | Have you ever heard that free speech is under threat? Well I decided to take a look at an often under examined issue. Those of Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) and the UKs weird and wonderful defamation laws. I love to make jokes about libel on stream so I thought you know what? Everyone Should Have Nice Things SKTheCrusader 2024-01-14 | Happy new year everyone, here's a video with my new setup, my new hair, an ending that's actually quite good vibes and should set the tone for the year since I'll be critiquing means testing and promoting universalism.Until now, ruthless means testing was the only way to distribute benefits and provide services, but not anymore. (This is the point where you gasp and ask if there's a better way). In the video I decide to look at some of the more innocent motivations and justifications that people make in favour of means testing. Then I get into why these aren't actually sound, or politically intelligent positions to hold in a lot of cases. Finally I make the case for some universalism in services (though I tried not to dismiss UBI out of hand, it has a potential place). So here's my video about Gamers, who we mean by the term, what their culture is and how that impacts the world around us (or if it even does.) In this video I try to answer a question a loyal patron asked, which is to what the left can or should do about Gamers.I take some issue with the premise, but in this video I explore the origins of modern gamer culture, who we have in our head when we think of "gamers", the behaviours associated with them and how they impact upon marginalised communities particularly in the "post-Gamergate era" even if we aren't necessarily out of the shadow of that particular event.I also try to establish why these issues may be for the left to solve and what the consequences of either inaction or abdication of our place in these spaces (depending on your view of what our current positioning is within them) are.
