I covered this in Push To Reject a while back, now it's time to get a proper clear on it!
This is such a weird racing game. The general flow of this is of course to get to each checkpoint before you run out of fuel. But starting from stage 4 on, it becomes very difficult to reach the checkpoint in time. So what the game does is give you "banked" fuel refills mid-stage if you reach certain point thresholds. For the most part there it's usually possible to earn 1 extra refuel to do Stages 4 through 9. It IS possible to complete one of these later stages with no refuels, but it would require staying in the brown lanes the entire time without crashing into anyone.
...oh yeah, the lanes! This is Change Lanes, after all. There are different section, the gray lanes, the brown lanes, and the WATER. I believe you reach the highest top speed on the brown lanes, though I could be mistaken. When in the water, there is no traffic apart from the mines (and an occasional ICE CUBE WARNING), and you can gain extra 5000 point items from the blimp. Why not stay in the water all the time? Because it forces you to ram into the sides a lot if you go full speed. You definitely cover more distance on land, but staying in the water for the first couple stages is a good plan to build score for those fuel recharges.
Crashing into an enemy drains a little bit of fuel, but then starting on stage 5 is the most terrifying part of the game - the jet plane that drops a heat-seeking missile (what the heck did I do to them anyway?!?). If you're hit by the missile you lose ALL your fuel, and are forced to use a banked refuel immediately. If you have none, it's game over. Harsh.
Upon clearing the 9th stage, the game declares you KING OF THE WORLD, which is pretty sweet. Play then starts over on stage 1. Loop 2 doesn't seem any different other than having higher scoring thresholds to get more refuels. I eventually game over'd on 2-4.

Last time I streamed this was back in February 2022 and I forgot to export the VOD to youtube! Dangit! So I decided to re-tackle it with cheevos this time. Almost mastered the set but came up one short, requires a deathless run at this point (or good luck with the 1ups on Stage 5 because apparently theyre RNG?? how fun). Maybe Ill try to knock off that last achievement at some point in the near future, who knows, who knows")

The SNES game recently got a revision on RA, I hadnt done the set at all so now was a good time to try. I spent the first run trying to remember what to do, by the second run things went a lot smoother.
also played the GBA Pocky & Rocky With Becky, which is a much simpler game so there wasnt too much to the set either. I just like making jokes about the name.
so what about Pocky & Rocky 2? the set looked kinda miserable, and I didnt actually enjoy the game that much when I played it the first time. Not sure if Ill give it a shot in the future")

Sega CD version was easy baby game, TG-16 version is definitely tougher. Did not get the clear on Super difficulty, enemies produce revenge bullets and its pretty nuts. I may come back to attempt that at some point in the future.")
