In this episode design critic Barty Phillips talks to Gatwick airport manager Jane Priestman about the way design helps the airport operate, and how even the simplest object such as a bin can have multiple functions.
Also interviewed is Jock Kinneir who talks about the process of designing the signage for Gatwick. This was his first major commission and led to a career defining system of typography which has been used around the world ever since.
