This 1984 Apple commercial is often confused with the famous Ridley Scott Super Bowl ad, but it is actually a different spot entirely. That iconic ad never even showed the computer itself, it just teased that Macintosh was coming on January 24th. This commercial is the one that followed shortly after and finally revealed the real machine, showing off the mouse, the graphical interface, and that File Edit View menu bar that felt like science fiction compared to anything else on the market. The narrator lays out that Macintosh does all the things you would expect a personal computer to do, plus a bunch of things you would not expect, closing out with Apple's now legendary tagline calling it the computer for the rest of us. It is wild looking back at how big of a leap this represented, since most computers at the time were still running black screens with green text and no mouse in sight. This one really deserves just as much credit as the famous ad for changing how people saw personal computing.
