Here's a 1978 Gottlieb Dragon pinball machine for your viewing pleasure. This game is not to be confused with Interflip's Dragon that was released by the Spanish company around the same time. This machine is the solid state version but this game was also released in the electromechanical flavour in very low numbers.
Dragon is a typically simple game from the early solid-state era. Spot the A-B-C-D lanes to increase the bonus multiplier. Hit the vari-targets for 1k, 2k, or 3k points. Hitting the vari-target for 3k points also lights the spinner for 1k points (rather than 100 points otherwise). The special and extra ball lights, unusually, light at various bonus levels rather than for completing certain objectives, so they're more of a random award.
This game is an attractive machine with very Gotttlieb-esque Gordon Morison artwork. Gameplay is so-so. Vari-targets are a neat idea but not nearly as satisfying to hit as, say, spinners and drop targets. Still, the game flows pretty well.
