Here today for your viewing pleasure is a 1974 Gottlieb Out of Sight pinball machine in action. Out of Sight is the two player version of Far Out, which is the four player edition.
Out of Sight and its cousin Far Out are surprisingly fun and challenging to play. Going after the lit drop target to add the bonus and get the 10x value when that side is lit earns the serious points. The left and right lanes behind the drop targets engage the left outlane kickback and the right outlane gate to the shooter lane. The top three lanes, when lit, advance the bonus.
The only complaint I have with this game is that the drop targets don't reset when they're all down. Once they're down, you're left trying to get the ball back to the top or into the lit left or right lanes to add to the bonus. There's just not much to shoot for once the targets are down. Still, I find this game fun and challenging enough.
The artwork is super groovy and definitely goes for the whole hippie aesthetic (although it might have been a little late by 1974).
Out of Sight and Far Out were designed by Ed Krynski (of course) with art by the great Gordon Morison.
