Here we have the greatest video arcade machine ever made. This is it, kids. There's nothing better, full stop.

I'm not the greatest player in the world, that's for sure. This isn't one of those silly multi-hour Robotron marathons. Just a quick game for your viewing pleasure. A decent game for me is somewhere around 750,000, but I know dudes that crack 3 or 4 million without breaking a sweat (hello, Nolte). I'm not one of those guys.

It's difficult to get a good video of an arcade machine using an original CRT monitor, but I did my best. It's also worth noting that this machine is absolutely original and is running all of the original hardware. No emulation here!

In 1982, pinball was nearly finished. Oh, sure, Williams and Bally and even Stern were trying their hardest to pull pinball from the brink of disaster, but the video games were just too strong. Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga and Donkey Kong were ruling the arcades in 1982 where pinball once reigned supreme. And over at the Williams video game division, programmers like Larry DeMar and Eugene Jarvis, who loved pinball and had a hand in some of the greatest pinball programming ever were also helping to destroy pinball with throug h their design of games like DEFENDER and ROBOTRON. The kids loved the video games and the video games proved to be far less expensive and more maintenance free than the pinball machines.

Robotron is a game that involves a superhuman who is tasked with saving the last human family from the evil robots who detest human inefficiency. Your task is to destroy the robots while rescuing humans in a never-ending battle. It was unique for its dual joystick controls and complete lack of buttons. For the complete story of Robotron: 2084, see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotron:_2084

The music used in this video is by Julia Massey, for whom I am grateful.
