TelevisionVanguard | 1973-74 Television Season 50th Anniversary: The Dean Martin Variety Show ('Dancing' with Dale Evans) @TelevisionVanguard | Uploaded 3 weeks ago | Updated 4 hours ago
Its Friday night, and we're reminiscing and reflecting back on the fall 1973-1974 television season, and throughout this season, we've been paying tribute to The Dean Martin Variety Show, which was on its final season as it's nine year run on NBC reached the end of the road. In fact, as famous as Thursday night at 10 pm on NBC was for Dean and his show for those many years, its final resting spot on the NBC prime time lineup was on Friday night at 10pm... the show was moved there for the final few months of its long and successful run on NBC.
We are wrapping up our tribute to Dean and the show with three final video clips and posts - these three are a few of our personal favorites. In this video clip (the second of our three favorites, and the funniest one we've ever seen of Dean and friends), broadcast in the mid 1960s, Dean joins Roy Rodgers and Dale Evans in a 'hoedown' song and dance. Or at least, he tries to! Dean often was not able (golf game priorities!) to rehearse song-and-dance sequences prior to the actually taping night, so at times, Dean had to 'wing-it.' Dale and the dancers are trying to give Dean instructions as he dances from partner to partner, with funny results. At the very end, Roy approves with a 'that's not bad.' Indeed. :)

Much like The Dean Martin Show in 1974, we've reached the end of the road in our review of the 1973-1974 television season. We'll be rotating to our annual tribute to the television seasons of yesterday... 'one season at a time' on Sunday. The 1974-1975 season beckons. We wrap up the 1973-1974 season with Dean, pianist Ken Lane, and Greg Garrison tomorrow/Saturday night.
