With 0:45 to go, quarterback Armstrong threw a bomb to halfback Randy Kaiser. The ball made it to the LaGrange twenty-five, but was underthrown, and went right into the defender's hands. However, Kaiser tipped it out of the LaGrange player's hands, and then tipped it again causing it to float five yards further downfield where he reached behind him, pulled it in with one hand, and then finally, by this time on the 15 yard line, tucked it away and ran for the touchdown and the tie. Thus began Oak Park's undefeated season that lead to the state championship.
