The speaker is the famed professor and author Elaine Tyler May. I conducted this interview in 1989 as part of my television series on people describing how they lived during the 1960s and why they rebelled. She has written many books on the American family and is considered one of America's leading experts on the Middle-class families in the 1950s. I post this now because so many viewers have reacted to my clip–America in 1957, many expressing a desire to go back to that time.
