The Last Faith is a 2D pixelated Metroidvania game developed and published by Kumi Souls Games. In this game, you will be playing as Eryk, a mysterious and amnesiac prisoner who just escaped prison and has an unknown illness. In his journey, he would be exploring the lands of Illygarth in hopes to find a cure for his illness, learn more about his past, and to discover the cause of the ongoing pandemic in the lands. However, this journey would coincide with the revelation of dark secrets that might change the state of the lands depending on the path he chooses.
A game which received a Metacritic score of 72 (PC), 74 (PS5), and 78 (PC). Praises were given on its gorgeous, pixelated art in its world design, characters, and cutscene animations; the varied battle mechanic which takes clear inspiration from the game Bloodborne; music; as well as the quality of its enemies and bosses. On the other hand, criticisms were mainly given on the character dialogues which were too flowery to make sense which affects the plot and story of the game as a whole; the bugs and glitches with some being game breakers and the developer's slow action to address such issues; and how it did not make any new revolutionary gameplay and just borrowed mechanics from older, better games in the genre.
For me, I really2x love this game. Clearly getting inspiration from Blasphemous and Blooborne, both games one of my most favorite games of all time, this was an automatic great game for me. I love the pixelated design and animation which was also the reason I loved Blasphemous, add that with Bloodborne's transforming weapons mechanic, great enemies and bosses, and decent puzzles, and this game is a 5/5 experience for me. However, the game is indeed mired with bugs and glitches. Although I was lucky to not encounter any game breakers, it was still annoying that it kept coming that I have to redo game sections again. Furthermore, I also did not like the character lines and dialogues in the game, they were too obnoxious in making flowery words that it was nonsensical since it was moving too much from the main topic at hand. Needs significant improvement in this matter. Overall, still a very very enjoyable 2D game which is similar with the Blasphemous games. If you like those games, then this is a must have for you.
