Let's Play Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (PC)
#17: Royal Rats & Executioner's Chariot
Before heading off to the DLC areas, I think it's time to clean up a few of the optional bosses from the base-game that I have skipped over: the Royal Rat Vanguard / Authority (two different rat bosses, yeah), and the Executioner's Chariot.
The two rat bosses are located in the Grave of Saints and the Doors of Pharros; both of these places are covenant zones for the Rat King Covenant, where nasty servants of the Rat King will lure unsuspecting victims into their trap-laden worlds.
The chariot boss is down an alternate pathway in the Huntsman's Copse which I had previously ignored; past this unique fight, we can gain access to the Brotherhood of Blood, aka Bloodbros. Each of these bosses are quite easy for me, as I'm rather over-leveled for them.

The pacing is a bit faster than my usual style; this is not a comprehensive walkthrough, and I will be skipping some items/enemies/sections. I will kill all bosses. I have not played DkS2 since before the release of the third game earlier this year, and in recent months I've been very engrossed in DkS1; this is my revisitation of DkS2, to once and for all gain a proper perspective on all three games in the series.

I am Philip, a renowned physicist who teaches at a university. My mothers funeral was about a year ago, and shortly thereafter I receive a letter from the father I never knew; he spoke of his imminent passing, declaring that by the time I read the letter, he would already be dead. It didnt say much, just left a deposit box in my name; of course I went to check it out.
In it, I found an old book, collection of documents, and discovered that he had been declared legally dead almost three decades ago. Strange. His instructions were to burn them all, but no man is immune to the shameful trappings of curiosity; I discovered that the old book was indecipherable, but I learned of a certain location somewhere in the wastes of Northern Greenland. Without any more details than that, for some reason I decided to journey out there myself to learn more...

It features much of the same elements - a dynamic physics engine, gameplay that emphasizes puzzle-solving, and instilling psychological horror based on an inability to fight back against the games monsters.

The blizzard outside was so terrible, I had to seek shelter in the nearest possible place... just my luck, Im trapped in an abandoned mine that was seemingly used during the war.
A trip to the Office yields some notes from a british officer circa 1945, as well as some interesting references for creating several types of explosives.

The first DLC is found beneath the lair of The Rotten. The forgotten city of Shulva is home to many poisonous denizens, and has a confusing layout; oh and theres a nasty dragon about.
The outer city itself is a rather vapid landscape, with only a few extraneous items to offer, so I opt to run straight into the Dragon Sanctum to find the mechanism that raises the bridge. The enemies are all very dangerous, and it takes a seasoned warrior or a very concerted effort to find the critical path.
Once inside the great pyramid of Shulva, the descent to its base will lead us to Elana the Squalid Queen; she wields a heavy poleaxe, casts dark magic, teleports, and can summon either a squad of skeletons or a golden clone of Velstadt... depending on your luck, she can be quite a handful.

Prepare to experience your new obsession it claims on the box. Yes, but also confusion and frustration. Daggerfall is a first-person dungeon-crawler, second installment of the Elder Scrolls series, and it pioneered some of the elements that would become standard in later titles. It was a highly-ambitious project, and it did some interesting things that were never seen again within the series.
