Friendly Review of the 2018 YouTube Policy change for the YoutTube Partner Program (YPP). In January 2018, YouTube announced new requirements for the YouTube Partner Program which allows YouTubers to monetize their videos through Adsense. The new changes which take effect 20 February 2018 are new requirements of 1,000 subscribers, and 4,000 hours of watch time in the past year. If your channel does not meet those requirements your contract will be terminated. I dug through my analytics and found out how much money I would have lost if the new rules were in place when I started on YouTube just over a year ago. It was approximately $256. I also dug through Social Blade to find out how many channels this new policy makes ineligible for the YouTube Partner Program. The new change eliminates over 16 million of the 18 million channels ranked by Social Blade.
I was asked by my subscribers to weigh in on the new YouTube policy from the standpoint of someone on the other side of it. Overall this will frustrate many YouTubers, but there could be some positives that come out of it. Hopefully, it stops the people from making money off stealing people's content. It also may thin out the bot channels.
