Flash Domino | 15,000 Dominoes + California's Biggest Chain Reaction - Reactica 2018 Official Topple Video @flashdomino | Uploaded June 2018 | Updated October 2024, 2 days ago.
I'm very proud to present to you another annual build at the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose, under the new name "Reactica". Months of preparation, setup and material planning, followed by one week of building full-time led to our team creating the biggest chain reaction in California! Buildup took place from 6/18-6/22 with the topple on 6/23.
The final result turned out amazing. 15,000 dominoes and a 200-step chain reaction took up half of the museum's theater, and was toppled and livestreamed for an audience of hundreds. All of the team members put their best ideas and work on the table. For this video, we did decide to use lots of backup footage rather than falldown footage, to emphasize that every part of the chain reaction could be seen clearly and to cover up a few fails. Be on the lookout for machine closeups too, which will be uploaded by many other team members- that way you can take an in-depth look at each table!
Besides the project itself and all of its aspects, I love the event dynamic. Everyone on the building team is skilled and efficient, and the museum staff goes above and beyond every year. It's amazing to see children visit and try their hand at domino setups, building things from their minds that nobody has seen before. This event reminds me that people work best when they make time for things they believe in and do things the way they want to do them. Getting inspired by what my team comes up with, seeing the children's setups, and watching the museum's work ethic is a great way to learn.
