It's been too long since either Twig & Cabaret or I have uploaded an actual stylistic domino video- for me, it's been almost three years! I'm so happy we could now make one together. The concept of "progressively more compact" setups is something I've wanted to do for a while (and apparently Twig & Cabaret have had the idea in their back pocket too)! While I thought I could capitalize on some free time last December to finally execute this concept, these projects ended up taking months for us. The final result could not be more worth it.
I made the setups with 1K, 3K, and 5K dominoes, and Twig & Cabaret made the other three. Both the 3K and 5K setups are actually setups that I built twice. The first build was last December, and I finished them both in about two weeks. But watching them back, I decided I didn't like the style- they seemed rushed, the compactness wasn't consistent, and it seemed like I used too many filler ideas instead of core ones. When I returned home from school again in March, I built them both for the second time. I am much happier with the results from the second attempts, and those are what made the final cut! Maybe I'll upload the first builds eventually as well.
With all the time I've given my building style to improve, plus the fact that two of my three setups were given multiple attempts, I can confidently say this work is me at my best. And yet the intricacy of my projects doesn't get anywhere close to what Twig & Cabaret are now able to build. There are so many things I love about their setups in this video- structure variation to create scenery, more unexpected and unconventional collapsing structures, color combos with similar hues, color combos with contrasting hues, expert pathing, and just that they took the time to make every connection graceful so that no idea went to waste. I am honored to collaborate with the best compact builder the community has ever seen.
