Residents of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, a French coastal town, were shocked when they woke up to find a 130m skeleton of a snake on their beach. The giant twisting serpent skeleton is actually a sea serpent sculpture called the ‘Serpent d’Océan’, created by Chinese-born French artist Huang Yong Ping.
Unveiled in 2012, the curving skeleton is made of aluminum metal and measures nearly 425 feet in length, mimicking the curves of the nearby Saint-Nazaire Bridge. Serpent d’Océan was created as a permanent work for the final Estuaire contemporary art exhibition in 2012 and has since been a popular tourist attraction.
